Meltdown
By: Mark |I have no words. A 5-0 loss to the worst team in the league in Toronto FC’s most important game of the season. I guess that’s a few words actually. With the other results tonight (losses by both Colorado and Dallas), a Toronto win would have clinched their first ever MLS playoff appearance. But instead we’re all left confused as to how the season could end so badly. Just as confused as this guy:
Well, it’s too early to start talking about what needs to be done to improve this team for next season, but hopefully there is a massive shakeup during the off-season. It seemed like Toronto had some very good players on the squad, but the possibility of massive breakdowns occurring at any point in a game was always there, and unfortunately this happened many times to cost the team important wins.
Ugh. I don’t want to dwell on this game too much, so I’ll end this here. Good luck to all the teams in the playoffs – hopefully we’ll see you there next year!
Sacrificing my integrity for the sake of TFC
By: Mark |Ok, in an effort to pump up the Seattle Sounders just enough for them to beat FC Dallas this weekend – which would effectively seal Toronto’s place in the playoffs (provided Toronto wins too of course), here is a quick clip for the Seattle Sounders fans. Laurie at the Sounders Offside, I’m looking at you here:
Decoding the playoff picture?
By: Mark |I’m not going to lie, I’ve given up on trying to figure out how the different scenarios for this weekend’s matches need to play out for Toronto to make the playoffs. The numbers are too much for me, so I’m going to just sit back and hope for a TFC win against New York and everyone else to lose. I guess that’s not entirely possible, but at least we know that if Toronto wins, they have a much better chance of making it in than if they lose!
Luckily there are other people out there to crunch the numbers, and this article by Kyle McCarthy at Goal.com sums up all the possibilities. Read the rest of this entry »
Keeping our hopes alive
By: Mark |Well, TFC did their part correctly this week with a 1-0 victory over Real Salt Lake at BMO field. That bumps us into 8th place in the playoffs until we find out the rest of the results for the weekend.
This was the final home game of the season, and the Toronto fans gave a nice sending off to fan favorite Danny Dichio before the match with a huge “Thank You” banner across the south end of the stadium.

Let’s go Red Bulls (for tonight at least…)
By: Mark |I will become a very short-lived New York Red Bulls fan if they can beat Real Salt Lake tonight to aid in the cause of TFC making the playoffs. If Real wins, our hopes go further down the drain, and TFC plays Real in Toronto for their last home game this Saturday. I’ll be at that match, and I really hope it still means something! Another Heartbreaker…
By: Mark |Toronto FC broke out the pink jerseys to support breast cancer research this weekend against San Jose Earthquakes. This one ended in a 1-1 draw, and was mainly a good outing for TFC except for their usual nemesis – the last 15 minutes. To be fair, this time it was only the last 2 minutes that were the problem (San Jose scored the equalizer in the 92nd minute).
This was a real heartbreaker and a big dent to their playoff hopes, but I think there were some positives to the game. Let’s recap:
4 regulars were out of the game for this one including Marvell Wynne, Carl Robinson and Stefan Frei due to injuries, and Amado Guevara who was away with the Honduran national team for a World Cup qualifier. But for the most part, the team looked pretty good and mainly controlled the play over San Jose, especially in the 2nd half when they had an early goal and some other good scoring chances. Turf Wars
By: Mark |The City of Toronto are all high on grass after approving MLSE’s proposal to install a new natural grass turf for BMO field. This is great news for Toronto FC fans who have been enduring a brutal turf war for the past 3 seasons since TFC joined the MLS.
The last time BMO field boasted a shiny grass field was when Real Madrid came to town to thoroughly trounce TFC. That was only for one game of course, but now that we’ll be getting a real field, hopefully we can look forward to many more international trouncings (and hopefully some TFC playoff appearances too!) TFC vs. Chicago Fire 2-2
By: Mark |Last night’s game in Chicago was yet another episode in frustration for Toronto FC. TFC need every point they can get to cling to their slim chance of making the playoffs, and unfortunately they gave up two of them last night.
The frustrating part is that Chicago was definitely beatable, but Toronto still managed to squander the lead twice in the game and may now be too far out of the playoff race to catch up. Let’s see if we can take anything positive out of this draw… Read the rest of this entry »
Please Sign Me! (Part 2) (What recent results have taught us…)
By: Jon |One thing has been made quite evident in the past two months or so. The Reds have no problem creating and carrying out the attack. Where we falter, however, is most definitely defense. What can we do to put a choke hold on the opposition?

That’s right, Sulzeer Jeremiah Campbell. Or…Sol. A player who needs no introduction, Sol has always been an impressive center back. With good stints at Tottenham and Portsmouth, he is best known for his success with Arsenal all the while racking up 73 caps for England’s national side in the last 13 years. Believe it or not, he is listed on the PFA´s website as a free agent.
He is 34, but you must admit, that is an impressive resume. His experience centering the back line of some of the greatest teams ever put together would surely have positive effect on the Reds and sure up the weak spots. What do you think? Sol it is. Not the one? Too old? More Haitian internationals?

By: Jon |EL SUPER RATON

Any one following the recent Gold Cup surely heard his name thrown around. He plays for a lowly national squad and an un-heard of club in the U.A.E. None the less he was the tournaments second best goal scorer tallying 3 goals and 1 assist. It is none other then El Super Raton, Blas Perez. A Panamanian international playing for U.A.E. side Al Wasl he has spent most of his career playing for minor central American clubs the most notable being Los Tigres and Pachuca of the Mexican league as well as Cucuta and Deportivo Cali of Columbia.
A formidable forward at 1.87 m, he has scored 18 goals in 43 appearances for his country. It was probably during his tenure at Cucuta of Columbia though where he impressed most. After qualifying for the Copa Libertores in 2007 Blas brought them 8 goals becoming the second best scorer in the torneo (two of which were against the famed Boca Juniors (a club in Argentina that would challenge most European clubs)).
I have a hard time finding information on his status with his club at Al Wasl, but it seems like he was nearing the end of his contract. After watching him bully CONCACAF defenses during this year’s Copa de Oro it is evident that he would bolster any team’s offence. I know we need to tighten up defense at BMO, but I would love to see a solid goal scorer up front for The Reds (I just am not sold on Ali Gerba (scoring 10 goals for The Dons (a third tier team in England) does not make him an automatic goal scorer for TFC.)) What do you think? Is a player like the Super Raton worth going after? If not who?
