TFC- Daily Dose Question 6 + 5 = ?????

If you have been a regular reader of my little blog, you will have no doubt know where what my opinion is on the whole 6 + 5 rule Sepp Blatter is trying to implement.

For me the TFC blog has always been my little soap box to rant and rave about what i believe should be the done with TFC. But after reading this article about the non-existent limitations on international players in Europe and its consequences on the other continents; it only creates more questions, so in order to alleviate my sanity, i am going to give the floor to the readers of the offside ( not just to TFC readers).

Therefore the question this week is simple,

What do you believe would be the benefits or consequences of the new rule that Sepp Blatter is trying to implement. ????

To help answer this question here is some recommended reading

1. FIFA website

2. TSN opinion

3. Aljezerra

4. Reuters

5. The Independent

6. Skysports

Well when looking at Blatter’s position, it is simply not feasible. Since the creation of the European Union and the combination of European economies, it would be simply discrimination to deny a EU citizen the right to play on the field simply because of their nationality. However what they can do right now is limit the amount foregin players from outside of Europe in taking field. That would definitely hurt all those African and South American players (Sorry Drobga, Ronaldinho, Messi, haha)

    Hey Nick,

This is straight Communism. And I am such a proponent for free market that I can never support this garbage.

Hey dave i totally understand where you are coming from but one thing that is not mentioned is the adverse affects it has over local market…( do you believe that someone in brazil take the job of someone in the united states when they are both equally qualified., what is happening is that in england they are choosing foreign stars at the expence of the english stars, therefore when a good enlish star comes along they are grossly overvalued. ( i.e Peter Crouch 15 mil)

Yea but Nick - you are talking about the top teams. There are 32 teams - and not every englishman can be in Chelsea or Man U. There is plenty of room for their countrymen. But I dunno. I like free market systems. 6+5 sounds like an MLS rule. I dont like it.

For instance - Argentina. Boca and River lose players yearly in big ways to Europe. But there is still lots of quality every year to cheer for.

    Ah whatevs.
