i actually didnt see the game but i saw highlights and the game looked pretty evenly matched. tfc had their opportunities just couldnt finish. and it isnt lombardos fault because i didnt see anyone else out there scoring a goal. and when dichio was playing last week he didnt score either so all you people can go on hating on lombardo all you want but just take a look at the rest of the team. lombardo almost scored last night so i dont understand what makes everyone hate him. if you score a goal you are the greatest thing and then the next week your nothing. and he has scored - against aston villa, sure it was a friendly but i was there to see it so it made it feel like it was the winning goal of the CL finals or something.

“We” don’t hate Lombardo. I know it is not his fault he stinks as a professional striker. It is just that he symbolizes everything that is going wrong with tfc. He had a clear run at goal and lifted the shot 10 metres over the net. It was not even close. The problem is that most teams do not get many chances at the pro level, even in the MLS. Look at Italy vrs France this weekend. The problem with tfc, is that whenever they do get a chance, it is the striker, Lombardo, who needs to do his job. At the 67th minute, he received a perfect pass, with the defender turning the wrong way. He had about two seconds to make a touch and fire a shot. Instead, he just kicks at the ball without thinking, or looking. It is clear he will never score a goal for tfc.
The problem is tfc management. They have the cash, they can make a move now, even if it is short term (Look at Denilson, he probably returns to Europe in 2008). No, our team stinks, and nobody at the management level really cares. After all , it is a business, and the dough is flowing….why do you think everybody at MLS headoffice loves what is happening here….it is not because we are winnning, or even losing, it is because they are making big bucks…..sad, but true….as for Dichio, he did not score last week…he is a virtual cripple out there….and, has more talent in his jock strap than lombardo will ever have…you know something, i change my mind, i do hate lombardo…..

He has scored a goal for TFC just not in the league.
I agree - MLSE and TFC management is so chuffed with all the money rolling in they couldn’t care less about what’s happening pitch-level.

Are you guys trying to say that Toronto FC failed to score a goal?! I am completely shocked. How do they not score with not score with the incredible talent they have and the durable injury free line up? Oh… Its been 732 mins you say? Holy shit! Someone should call Adidas and tell them they have to change their slogan. Apparently impossible is something.

I am going to go to the game on Saturday and if by the 75th min they have still not scored, I am going to run on to the field with ball and place it somewhere near RSL’s 18 yard line and try to kick it in before security tackles me. I think it would be cool for the fans to see at least something go into the net. They (we) deserve it. I missed the last game, but apparently there wasn’t much to miss anyways.

Yeah, well… I’m confident we can score against Real. But please, Paolo, go right ahead, I’ll be happy to see that.

As for Lombardo, here’s how I see it.
He doesn’t suck, he’s a pro soccer player.
But he’s not good enough. And he’s sucking. ‘Nuff said.

Yes, Paolo definately do that. Something - anything in the back of the net would be better than how we’re doing.

Maybe Lombardo should get a haircut, aka Francesco Totti.
He could get the haircut, and beg Totti to send him a pair of his old socks, but not until Totti spits into them a few dozen times. Then, Lombardo should put the socks on, and wear them for a week. This is probably the only thing that will help this hopeless wreck score a goal.

Do “own goals” count. I figure there should be at least one own goal for tfc between now and seasons end. That should count. However, if Lombardo is anywhere near the net, he will pounce on the ball like a NFL receiver, and dive into the net with it.

I was there, I was shocked. How could they not score??????????????????????????????????????????????????? I wanted to run on the field like I said, but you are not allowed to bring an inflated ball into the stadium. Good thing too, cuz jail time, fine/bail and a stadium ban would not have been good… all things I did not think about previously… They played a lot of the match in RSL’s half of the field and had enough chances. I could not believe they could not finish one chance yeaterday and they had the man advantage. At the end why would they not send the keeper forward to try and help the cause? I mean who cares if you lose, just SCORE a damn goal. Some of the chants were funny though. Thank goodness for beer!

haha I would have loved to have done it. Even if I had the props, the consequences of the risk would have far exceeded the rewards. The game was still fun though! The crowd was living and dying with the club and hanging on every scoring chance. There were tons of chants about tons of things. There was genuine feelings by both players and fans! I am not sure if anyone could see on TV, but when the final whistle sounded the TFC players just stopped where they were, completely gassed and exhausted and just leaned forward, hands on knees, with their heads hanging. You could tell they really wanted and needed to put one in the net and really did try. Aside from no goals it was a good game to be at though. I was hoping they would score cuz I just wanted to hear and see that place lit up. Hopefully they score on the Crew. Maybe Jimmy B can answer the fans, but rather than tell us he can show us, again, how he scored that goal! After all it was agianst the Crew!

I watched the game on tv. After RSL went down to 10 men, all they did was defend. That is the norm in soccer (TFC did the same several weeks ago on while on the road, and played to a nil, nil draw). And, scoring against a team that plays behind the ball is very hard, unless you have the talent to open up the defenders. TFC does not have this talent, and it shows, everytime they find themselves in the box. Dichio, and to a lesser extent, Cunningham, are the only two who can achieve some results. And it shows, doesn’t it? No Dichio = no goals. No healthy Cunningham= no goals. All the time TFC held the ball serves to prove this. When Lombardo, yes I hate him, made a nice play, and pass to Dunivant, it is no surprise that defender, turned midfielder missed his chance. Where was Edu and Samuel during that play?….they are always out of position, or appear totally confused when they are in the box.

Mo should have brought in some much needed replacements early in July, before this unbelievable drought set in. You can cheer this team all you want, and you should, cause soccer is a great game, and it is great to have a pro team here.

At least losing will convince TFC to do something about team depth. To say nothing of having useless Canadian fringe players on the starting roster.

Come this time next year, less than half of them will be back. MLSE will force MO to do this because of the difficulty renewing season tickets over the winter. And, with expected changes to the Canadian talent rule, we will finally have some real players to cheer for (sorry, but even a squad made up of the very best Canadian pro players ranks about 55th in the world). The Canadian natinal team would probably miss the playoffs if they played in the MLS. So a little realism is needed here. It works in Series A, the EPL, La Ligua, etc. Can you count the number of English players starting for Chelsea? For Man U? Scots playing for Celtic in Scotland, Italians on Inter?….It is a world game, TFC needs to address this, and fast.

Your right. I shouldn’t hate the guy, it is not his fault he can’t play worth a dam. I know, I know, he has you on his side…..but….if you like him, what would you think if MO was able to bring lets say, a player like Kaka to Toronto. I think you would forget about lombardo pretty fast. My beef here is with mlse. There are so many high quality players in the world who could immediately replace lombardo. From Africa to Asia, look at Drogba, he was a nobody a few years ago…if you don’t take a chance on these players when they are young, they will cost a fortune later on….lombardo should be playing with the reserves…he is just not good enough to play with men right now.

Objection! Drogba was not a nobody a few years ago. Seven years, maybe. Everyone who knows Ligue 1 has known him ever since he’s been at Guingamp.

Drogba a nobody?! Obviously not spoken by a l’OM fan. Or a Guingamp fan. Or a Le Mans fan. C’mon man…he’s practically a legend. Okay, maybe I’m a bit biased but still.

I’m with Sofia on this one - Lombardo had a good game. He just wasn’t getting good service. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t totally sack him next season though - one good game doesn’t make up for the string of horrid performances he’s put in. Samuel on the other hand was terrible - it’s like he doesn’t even care anymore.

Mo told The Star that he was going to make 6 or 7 signings in the off season and is going after an un-named Brazilian player.

okay, so i was wrong about drogba…i really like him…..he scored a lot of goals for each team he has played for, starting when he was a teenager…a bonafide superstar….just like lombardo….how many goals did you say lombardo scored so far this year? And, wasn’t he so dominant in the under 20 competition…the way he ran circles around those 16 year old defenders he was facing…oh, wait a minute….I was thinking of Altidore….Lombardo sucked for Canada…couldn’t even touch the ball….perhaps he could dominate a game at our local community centre league..they have a team that plays using wheel chairs that I think he could sub for now and then.
