TFC 0 Chicago 3: While our Backline Gently Sleeps
By: Sam | July 29th, 2007
Before I say anything about how badly Toronto got outplayed by Cuacua Blanco and co., I just have to say this: Calen Carr is the ugliest human being on the face of the earth. There.
So folks, if you had the misfortune of watching today’s match as a Toronto fan, you’ll know that the boys put forth a pretty dismal effort. You knew it before and after the three goals were scored. The defenders were extrordinarely clumsy, I’ve never seen the midfield turn the ball over so much.
Now, how about that CuauhtĂ©moc feller? That ball that led to the first goal, nothing short of brilliant, although a tiny bit of thanks towards Chris Pozniak would not be inappropriate. But the two other goals, Sweet Jebus, come on! Calen “You look like you just got run over by a” Carr could have done ten pushups before putting it in the back of the net, off Jim Brennan, while he’s at it. And the third? It’s called not standing around like a bunch of fucking trees, simple when you think about it I reckon.
Now. Monsalve? Monsalve! I think he did alright. The first was an excellent shot, if not a bit irritating due to the fact that everyone hates getting beat near post. The second and third, forget it, he can’t be blamed. He made a few really decent saves. Oh, like the other time the Calen “E.T. Phone Home” Carr found himself so open he probably laughed, and proceeded to take a shot that David got fingertips to, deflecting the ball onto the bar and then the post (or the other way around, I can’t remember).
We need them injured players back. Oh, by the way, If I had to pick the worst player… Lombardo. Sometimes you’ve got to stop ploughing into defenders from behind and get the ball, you know.
That is all. Next up: The Beckham-ful or Beckham-less LA Galaxy, the first meeting between the two sides, a week from today at BMO. Let’s have us a goal then, eh? For those who haven’t noticed, TFC hasn’t found the back of the net in three league games.

Ah, good point. My mistake, thanks for pointing it out.

I’ve always thought that Calen Carr was the loveliest, most delicate-featured player in MLS. Far too pretty for the game.

Calen Carr might be a lot of things, but if he’s ugly, what does that make Barrett or Blanco?

Well Tom, If I were that way I wouldn’t go for Barrett nor Blanco, but there’s just something about Carr’s look that just really irritates me. And, he nutmegged my guys, like, three times in the match.

So you didn’t enjoy it when Calen twirled his pretty little headband then, TFC fans?
(Sorry, but I took enough ribbing in person in Toronto when you guys hammered us in April.)

Actually, we won on fieldturf, not paper. You should consider investing in grass, though, I hear that’s a good surface for the game of football to be played on.

Hey now, I’m all for sarcasm but I don’t want bitching on my blog thanks a lot.
Tom: I’m no hypocrite, I know we all had a laugh when we won (it was our fist win, remember), I don’t expect you to be all humble after winning 3-0 on the road.Sofia: Blanco didn’t create everything, they’re not a one man team, Carr got a goal and an assist. You can’t fault Chicago for anything, come on. It’s US that played like shit.

You’re a fine man, Sam, apologies for my responses.
Though it was mean in spirit, I was somewhat serious about the turf-grass thing, though. TFC seems to be all about being an authentic-British-style but the turf is a real off-putter. Is there any talk about ripping it out?

“an authentic British-style-club” is what I meant to write.

Of course there’s not talk of ripping it out, Tom. No relevant talk, anyway. TFC players and opponents alike are against it, but since when do the people who decide care? It’s not like they talk about it much in the media, but if it does happen, it’ll be in a few years.

I wonder how it affects the team’s performance. When a few English teams had plastic pitches in the 80s, they had a massive homefield advantage. But fieldturf is a much more subtle surface than the bouncy concrete they used to use.
Maybe if y’all throw more firecrackers on it, they will have to rip it out…People power?

I think we Toronto FC fans should remind ourselves that the team is young and yes, its performance is uneven.
I would also like to see some planning such as calculating the points the team can obtain at home-matches versus the points it will fight for at away games. I’d would also like to see more discussions on the stronger opponents - those that pose a real threat versus those that are playing so badly that TFC has an obligation to defeat them.
This kind of strategic thinking.
I don’t see it here. I still see analyses match by match - It’s a tournament.
When there’s not enough strategic planning it is easier to blame it on injured players.Posted from

paulo’s right. tfc need a strategy not just kinda make it up as we go along but i think strategies will come in time with experience as a team. next season will be different-the guys will know each other better and so hopefully they will “gel” better.

Someone please admit Mr. Sam into the psych ward because clearly he’s delusional if he thinks Calen Carr is anything but handsome. Even more importantly, I met him and he’s a beauty inside as well.
