Cunning Cunningham Arrives, Pesky Esky Departs
By: Sam | May 23rd, 2007That Mo Johnston really digs trades. The latest, as you may have heard on Ian’s
, is one hell of a big one that sends fan favourite Alecko Eskandarian and a first-round draft pick to Salt “Party Central” Lake in exchange for last year’s Golden Boot winner Jeff Cunningham.
What do I think of this trade? I think it’s good. It’s definitely a shame to see Esky go, especially after he scored his first goal last week, but in return, Jeff Cunningham is very, very good as well. What’s more, with stats like sixteen goals and eleven assists last year, as well as three already this year, it’s hard to say you’re opposed to acquiring this guy.
Mo shares the same opinion as I, saying that it was in no way because of Esky’s play that he was traded, but simply a business decision. Esky, on the other hand, was disappointed to be traded, he said he was fitting in quite well.

Last night Mo stated in his press conference that Esky was traded because of his playing. 7 games, 1 goal….not good enough.
He also stated that he doesen’t care that Esky was a fan favourite, the trade was done because “we felt we were getting a better player in Cunningham’. The truth comes out.

I hope you guys enjoy Cunningham. We did while he scored goals but you will soon see why Kries let him go: terrible in the air, doesn’t play well with his back to the goal, has to have near perfect service to his feet or can’t do anything with it but turn it over, doesn’t run at defenders and is caught offsides when his midfield wins the ball back and he is still walking back to get onsides and shows a general lack of hustle. I am sure that his first few matches he will be showing why he was the Golden Boot winner but just wait…there is a reason why he has bounced around.
Now Sam, I will let your attempt at humor/sarcasm about Salt”party central”Lake pass as just that because at best it shows your ignorance at worst it shows your underlying bigotry…and I like to give people the benefit of the doubt.

soze - Of course, Mo is going to go on and say that Cunningham is better, what else can he say? I still think he was fond of Esky, like us all.
Wiz - Who’s ignorant? The one who makes a quick joke about some of Utah’s self-restriciting and entertainment-denying residents (and don’t think that I’m intolerant and am aiming this towards Mormons) or the one who declares someone a bigot based on two written words?
Sofia - I tried to read to the best of my abilites that article, but I don’t know how reliable that source is. Of course, that would be awesome, and I will look out for more on that. Thanks for the tip.
