The almost got them edition.

tfc.jpgSo before I began to write this post, I was convinced that I was going to continue to write about the upcoming doom of Toronto FC, this upcoming season. I even convinced mainstream media to start worrying if Toronto FC in its infancy, has already gotten ” Maple leaf sickness”. But I had a brainstorm, let’s go over some of the players that Manager Mo had gone after, both successful
and not successful and see if they any of these players would have made an impact with the Mighty Reds.

There has been some interesting near misses for Toronto this off season ranging from the charismatic Italian in Stefano fiore; to the Injured Huckerby.

Lets start out with my favorite rumors Noberto Solano. This rumor is relatively new but it would have been a damn good signing in my opinion, just because of his versatility alone. But low and behold he has decided to stay at west ham, ( But hey ! we might still see him play later this year. )

Nolberto Solano spoke yesterday….
The steering wheel spoke on the call for “Chemo” Del Solar. “It’s good to be given the opportunity to young boys, knowing that we will not have four players. I had a proposal by the Toronto FC, but I feel good at West Ham and I still have a contract with the club with an option to renew another season. “.

Mo had brought in Milosovic last year for a trial, (He has recently signed for Ruben Kazan. a team in the Russian league). Manager Mo said that he was a great player but was lacking that finishing touch was not the greatest. My memory of Milosovic was that he was a lethal finisher, when in form. I guess Coach Mo at the time was not considering the fact that he had not played a competitive match for six months before coming to Toronto for a trial.

Mo then decided to go after some premiership players, so he decided to put out some feelers out to Sunderland and Middlesbourgh for players to be loaned to them this summer. The Middlesbourgh deal didn’t get off the ground because dong gook – lee was not interested in coming to MLS and the Sunderland duo of liam miller and Ross Wallace would demand at least DP money each.

Joao Pinto, whom was released from his contract in Portugal, decided that he was too good of a player to tryout for the team, coupled with the fact that he believed that Toronto would give him DP money or at least match what he was getting in Portugal. My main issue was the fact that he is 36 years old and was not even playing regular football for his previous club. The average footballer retires at around the age of 32. If you still playing soccer at the tender age of 36 and fancy yourself to be Teddy Sheriham you may have to lower expectations and play for Cardiff. ( but i guess that is what he thought he was doing and coming to MLS)

In conclusion, TFC inability to sign any players of merit this year has had a few fans uneasy about the upcoming season. But hey even though I don’t show it I still have hope that TFC will make some move that will justify the wait. ( or am i am nuts for believing so … only time will tell)
