Cancel that: José Cancela traded to Colorado
By: Sam | April 6th, 2007
Just as he was getting ready to take on a new challenge and a new season against Chivas tomorrow, Uruguayan midfielder José Cancela was traded to the Colorado Rapids today. In return, Toronto obtained a youth developmental spot. The main reason for the swap? Cancela wasn’t convinced that Toronto was for him.
Said Mo Johnston: We’re sorry to see him go, but he wasn’t settled in Toronto. We only want guys who want to be here.
In my opinion, it’s a good deal, provided the staff run the development program well. A well-respected veteran, Cancela had a so-so preseason but could’ve provided Toronto with a key piece of our solid midfield corps.

How could that be a good move for Toronto. They lost a midfielder for nothing when they are already hurting from a lot of injuries. It might have been necessary because Cancela didn’t wanna play for Toronto but it is in no way a good move. Tommorow Night, Habs 3 Leafs 1

That’s a bad break for Toronto. Cancela is a gifted passer and technical attacking midfielder … while with the Revs, he made a huge impact, IMO. Rapids, huh? That’s an interesting tidbit, for sure.

I say it could be a good deal seeing as his preseason asked more questions than it answered. I know he’s a good player, so I’m saying that it hopefully will be fruitful.

True, you don’t want a cancer on the team I suppose.
