Coming to America

Thierry Henry has finally joined the New York Red Bulls and will be gracing the MLS with his presence very soon.

I’m glad this transfer finally happened, and I think Henry could have some impact in the league if New York has the talent to provide him with quality scoring opportunities. That’s pretty much all he needs, because in front of goal I expect him to be clinical. It’s exciting to see more star players joining the MLS for a few years to end their careers, and hopefully Henry will have some influence to bring over some of his friends and keep improving the league. After all, the presence of more star players will mean the rest of the players in the league will get to play against more quality and hopefully this will help them improve to. At least Julian de Guzman agrees with me.

Of course, I’m sure I’ll be regretting all this when TFC have back to back games against the Red Bulls in August, and Henry eventually scores on us, but for now I congratulate New York and look forward to seeing what Thierry can do!

One last thing. Check out this picture:

lol Mark! Haven’t seen that movie in ages.

Anyway, as an Arsenal fan this is bittersweet. On the one hand Thierry freakin Henry one of the greatest players of all time is coming to the MLS! On the other, he’s going to the Red Bulls (ew) the next closest team geographically and our direct competitor. I’ll always cheer for TFC of course but it will be wondeful to see him come to BMO. :)

Dammit New York is signing crazy DPs. Oh well we got JooDeGoo and MistaMista! :D

Coming to America is a pure classic. Makes me want to go out and get a Big Mic from McDowell’s.

But seriously, I’m sure that Henry will sting TFC a few times over the years and we will all grow to hate him (in a good way!). I’d like to see a real big-name DP come to Toronto soon though. I admit I don’t know anything about Mista, but from what I’ve read it seems he may be on the decline. We have to wait another week at least to see how that turns out. As far as Julian, I still think he could make a bigger impact at TFC, but it may be partly his good play that has helped the team to so many clean sheets. So even if he isn’t flashy, I think he is still a good signing for Toronto.

Or maybe he’ll be like Beckham and never show up lol

I think Julian is good for us. I agree he hasn’t been at his best, but when he is then he is able to be a calm and commanding presence in the midfield. I think that there is a big difference in our passing when he’s not playing. We’ll see about Mista, as you say.

So deRo is in the All Star XI but we have the CCL game as well. Is he going to play both? I know deRo is our little energizer bunny but I hope we don’t wear him out!

News like this is always good. Opponents have whined about how this is another case of old has-been stars coming to the MLS but Henry is only 32, hardly too old to play soccer. Any updates on Ronaldinho coming to LA?

Looks like LA are still trying to get Ronaldinho, but he’s pretty expensive! Here’s the latest news I’ve seen:

we need to start spending some cash… there are lots of players that can be propositioned but I dont think Mo Johnston and the rest of his staff are too savvy enough to even use their brains.. we need real fucking management.
