Hard work by TFC, but not enough to beat RSL
By: Mark | August 29th, 2010TFC put in a good fight on Saturday night, but it just wasn’t meant to be.
I thought they played one of the most energetic games I’ve ever seen from TFC – constantly running and chasing down the ball, tackling and winning balls all over the place, always looking for a quick pass to get into the attack – it was thrilling soccer! I was impressed by de Guzman, who looked much more commanding in midfield than we’re used to, Mista, Gargan, Saric, DeRo (as always), Ty Harden, everyone looked very intense. Preki must have really lit a fire under their asses. It did get a little chaotic at times, and TFC were probably lucky that Real Salt Lake couldn’t convert any of their chances either, so the 0-0 result was probably fair. It looked like either Toronto would finally score after all their hard work, or RSL would bang one in on a counter-attack, leaving TFC stunned. I’d prefer to take the single point than have the morale sink a bit more if they had lost the game.
Let me just end this post by saying that I PVR’ed the game and watched it when I was very tired on Saturday night, so my perception of space and time may have been out of whack. So if you saw a slow, sluggish TFC team that just couldn’t get it together to break the 0-0 deadlock, well that’s entirely possible too. But I think they put in a lot of hard work and can take some positives out of the game. They will need that with back to back road games coming up. If they can keep up the intensity on the road, they will eventually get some goals and hopefully pick up a win or two.

Craig Forrest said it pretty well during the commentating. The talent simply wasn’t there… TFC played with heart against a technically much better team but the lack of actual soccer talent (especially now that we’re playing so many usually benched players) sadly showed. Obrien White is entirely useless. Can we trade him for a bag of soccer balls please? xD
De Guzman was definitely impressive. He got to every ball and played like the DP he is. I really liked Ty Harden. In this game, even Garcia played great. I only wanted to punch him in the eye a LITTLE BIT, lol.
Awesome picture choice, btw. When I saw how hard Mista tried for that play, it made my heart warm. I feel like if he got better service, he could be dangerous.

Ha ha, great insight on Garcia. I’ve tried to not comment on him very much lately since I was very critical at the beginning of the season. I…almost…think he is…starting to look…passable. Whew, that was hard to say.
And Mista looked like a real soccer player in that game too!
The talent does seem to be lacking. You would think a popular team like TFC would be able to lure some better players, but maybe Mo can’t figure out how to get them.

I admit I’m a bit worried now. We have most of our games on the road plus the CCL fixtures. Right now we are on 27 points and outside of the playoff spot.
Good points about the squad btw. Too much filler.

It is my hope as well for the seemingly sluggish TFC team to win a few games over the course of the season.
