The Classic club v Country story.
By: nicholas | March 17th, 2008Who does Mo want to win the Canada vs USA semi final? If Canada wins he loses a few guys during the already tough summer, but if the US wins he loses 2 stars for a good chunk of the summer. Tough one. What do you guys think?
If USA wins …..
TFC loses : Marvell Wynee and Maurice Edu
IF Canada Wins:
TFC loses: Tyler Hemming , Andrea Lombardo, Tyler Roselund , (Potentially: Josh Waagnaar)

VPjr of redpatchboys made this comment … and i agree with him completly so here is his thoughts on the situation
If Canada wins, its a best of both worlds situation. Canada plays in the Olympics and TFC keeps Wynne and Edu
keep in mind, if Canada goes to the WC, they can take 3 players over the age of 23. I’m not sure who they would take but it could impact TFC. They might want Sutton.
There is also the chance/liklihood that Lombardo would not be selected to the U23 roster. He has not been impressive for Canada at all. His spot could easily be handed to someone like Friend, Hume, Gerba or Occean because 3 overagers are allowed. Gerba would make most sense because his club situation is not the best right now (I think he’s playing in the German Oberliga, which is glorified semi pro)
Also, there are quite a few players playing in Europe who were not released for this tournament (Mike D’Agostino, David Edgar, Jamie Peters, Marcel De Jong, Jonathan Beaulieu-Bourgault, Paris Nakajima-Farran, Simeon Jackson, etc… For the Olympics, they would be available if Dasovic wants them, which I imagine he would. In fact, I could see basically every single guy who was not released for this tournament make the final olympic roster if we make it to Beijing.
Assuming Rosenlund’s contract with MLS / TFC is approved, he would also be a candidate to go to Beijing and would also be plucked from TFC’s roster.
