New Bloggers in Town
By: Colman O'Meara | July 9th, 2008
As you may or may not have read a couple weeks ago, Nicholas is finding it difficult to keep up with his blogging duties due to a recent promotion.
However, instead of the TFC blog fading into oblivion, it is BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER! In order to generate more posts, two new writers will be offering their opinions on Canada’s best MLS team. As we both attend every home game and try to make it to as many away games as possible, while spending our weekdays snooping around on supporters’ groups’ message boards, we hope to offer you as much insight insight as we can from a fan’s perspective.
The Toronto FC Offside will be your source for anything Reds related, be it trade rumours, match previews, or postgame discussion.
Time to introduce myself: I’m 18 years old and will be going into first year at York University in Toronto in the fall. Currently, I still live in Burlington, ON. I’ve been following soccer for as long as I can remember. Being born and raised in Munich, I was left with little choice. An 1860 fan during my time in Germany, I was left with a huge void when I moved here, as there were no games to go to. TFC has filled that void, and is now more important to me than 1860. In case you need a photo, find me inexplicably excited between Danny and Jimmy B’s heads. Though I was in the South for that game, I usually sit in section 108, row 21, seat 9 at BMO. Come find me for a chat.
My fellow blogger, Rob, will no doubt also be introducing himself in the near future.
Until next time! (Likely after tonight’s must-win at least tie in Vancouver.)

great to have you here. i’ve heard about the great attendance figures in Toronto, and i always wanted to know: is TFC more popular than the Raptors, Blue Jays, and Argos yet?

Richard: While the enthusiasm we see at BMO Field is unrivaled at any sporting event in Toronto, the media have definitely not caught up yet. While the Globe and Mail tries hard to provide coverage, it’s match reports are usually around the eighth page of Sports, often after sports such as waterpolo and the like. In other papers, such as the rag called the National Post, we see open hatred towards our team. Instead of commending the fact that almost 3000 fans (your two bloggers included) travelled 8 hours by bus to see our season opener, they instead focused on the fact that several of them “relieved themselves” on a chain link fence at the edge of the tailgate field. Our friends from Columbus found this disgraceful, as there was a church on the other side of the street (20 metres from the fence). No mention of the fact that it was extremely dim not to set up portable washrooms for 3000 football fans who had been on a bus all day. /rant
Steve: I actually saw somebody wearing an 1860 jersey at BMO during the game vs. Pachuca. One of the Liqui Moly jerseys from 2005 I believe. He was on the big screen though, so I never actually saw him in person. Anyways, I’m going to Munich in August and will finally be able to catch some 1860 games (for the first time in four years). Do you live in Munich?
