You gotta love the dedication of Toronto FC’s supporters. The team has been holding closed-off training sessions for one week, but they know loyalty. Even before the club officially existed, these two groups did. Here’s what’s up.
The Red Patch Boys:A purely fun-oriented group of people who just want to make Section 112 (that they’ve christened The Bunker), and all of BMO Field for that matter, the best and noisiest in the league. Concious of their position as torch-bearers for Canadian soccer, one of their goals is also to spread the Toronto FC-ness throughout the country. The name, derived from “The Red Patch Devils”, an infantry division in World War II, was changed because of the resemblance to the nickname Red Devils. Dun-dun-dunnnn…
The U-Sector: Inaugrated when a handful of Toronto Lynx fans decided to organize something official to show their support. In section 113 of BMO Field, their season tickets are already sold out. Since 2000, they’ve built a fierce rivalry with fans from Montreal and Rochester, so if I didn’t know any better I’d say they’re ready to support. Splendid!
Not to be outdone, the non-organized fans have already shown their support. Already 11,500 tickets have been sold. Can you say “MLS record”?
This only goes to show that Toronto soccer fans have been waiting a long time for a quality soccer club, and it’s about frigging time the MLS appeases them. I can’t wait to see the RPB and U-Sector when TFC scores.

Do you know how far back these groups go? When I was a kid, my team used to be ball boys for the North York Rockets of the old CSL at Esther Shiner Stadium. When the Blizzard used to come in to play the Rockets there was always a huge group of fans that would follow them. They were loud, rowdy and always singing and chanting. I was just wondering if either of these groups went back to the days of the CSL. I remember reading that the Red Patch Boys followed a few pro teams in Toronto but I can’t find where I read that.
