By: Jon | July 29th, 2009EL SUPER RATON

Any one following the recent Gold Cup surely heard his name thrown around. He plays for a lowly national squad and an un-heard of club in the U.A.E. None the less he was the tournaments second best goal scorer tallying 3 goals and 1 assist. It is none other then El Super Raton, Blas Perez. A Panamanian international playing for U.A.E. side Al Wasl he has spent most of his career playing for minor central American clubs the most notable being Los Tigres and Pachuca of the Mexican league as well as Cucuta and Deportivo Cali of Columbia.
A formidable forward at 1.87 m, he has scored 18 goals in 43 appearances for his country. It was probably during his tenure at Cucuta of Columbia though where he impressed most. After qualifying for the Copa Libertores in 2007 Blas brought them 8 goals becoming the second best scorer in the torneo (two of which were against the famed Boca Juniors (a club in Argentina that would challenge most European clubs)).
I have a hard time finding information on his status with his club at Al Wasl, but it seems like he was nearing the end of his contract. After watching him bully CONCACAF defenses during this year’s Copa de Oro it is evident that he would bolster any team’s offence. I know we need to tighten up defense at BMO, but I would love to see a solid goal scorer up front for The Reds (I just am not sold on Ali Gerba (scoring 10 goals for The Dons (a third tier team in England) does not make him an automatic goal scorer for TFC.)) What do you think? Is a player like the Super Raton worth going after? If not who?

blaz perez is the prototypical target striker… and Toronto fc already has two in gerba and dichio and even barret in a pinch…. Toronto fc has so little dept in crucial positions such as left back, center back and central midfield and prob another striker who can also play on the wing .. or simply and out and out winger.
