Qu’est que vous chantez?

By: Robert | July 9th, 2008

Damn, you know its easier to chant than spell but if you’re a supporter or a fan, you know where I’m coming from… I’m Robert Esposito, co-blogger of this fine site. I’m sure any of you that followed Nicholas here will miss him so let’s bid him a fond farwell and best wishes in his future endeavors. About me: Well to be honest, I doubt any of you give a damn… What’s important is that I’m a massive supporter of our football club. You can find me, with pint in hand, at the Dufferin Gate before the game, 113 during, and the Duke of Gloucester for the away games that we can’t travel to. I’m here to provide you with some entertaining and somewhat informative match coverage. Don’t expect any ass kissing though as I’m not really here to win the adoration of our team or you ugly lot. I’m the type of guy who calls it as I see it and I don’t mind saying when someone’s complete shite. Speaking of which, I’m going to get right to it…

Toronto FC vs. Vancouver White Caps
Location: the tiny Swangard Stadium Vancouver BC
Kick-off 10pm EDT/7pm PDT
Dichio out - injury
Brennan out - cautions

I don’t think anyone who’s been watching the games will argue that we’ve been playing some pretty poor football of late. Everyone’s got a theory and an opinion. Mine is simple, we lack creativity in the midfield and we don’t have anyone, other than Dichio , who is a constant threat in front of the net. Not to say Dichio hasn’t mucked up his fair number of opportunities but let’s face it he at least instills some fear out there. Tonight against Vancouver, none of that matters. Dichio didn’t exactly inspire any level of confidence in the first half of against the Whitecaps and his concussion will keep him off the field this time around. In case you can’t tell I, like most supporters, am still seething over that Canada Day fiasco that saw us lose our first home game of the season to a USL team. But the past is the past and tonight the Reds have a chance to redeem themselves and redeem themselves they must. While a tie, followed by a second win against Montreal may allow them to still win some silver (the Nutrilite Canadian Cup) and clinch the coveted CONCACAF Championship spot, Toronto really needs a convincing win to boost confidence and quiet the critics, like those wankers over at the National Post who love to bash anything Toronto. While we’ll definitely be looking for Toronto to step-up their game, we’ll also be looking for some better officiating. The refs, last game in particular, have proven not only to be blind and deaf, but also incredibly stupid and completely amateur. I don’t even think they should be officiating anything above little league friendlies in school yards at lunch. Come on refs, for the love of the game, dust off the old rule brail rule book and re-familiarize yourself with the game. You’re not only embarrassing yourself but our entire league as well. OK, enough rambling… I don’t have any game details so get out to your local pub, raise a glass and chant COME ON YOU REDS!

Don’t forget to check here for the Postmortem tomorrow.

I just wanna say that I put my name in to hopefully get on the crew to take our techie art project to some festival in Toronto in the fall. Anyhoo - the point here is, I have every intention to sneak out of the festival (on an island apparently) and catch a Toronto FC home game. I have yet to TELL the people I’m working with this little fact. I figure I’ll break it to them after we get there.
