Question of the Month ……..
By: nicholas | March 10th, 2008Hello readers and writers of the offside
First things first, i am proud to be apart of the 35th most powerful blog on the web. ( sorry i had to pat myself on the back…kinda of an ego thing).
In other news Toronto had won there final game of the Texas invitational 3-2 to Chivas USA, to place third in the tournament behind Houston and DC United. To be honest this tournament is so micky mouse that not even Disney wants in. The Fact that most of the teams used there reserve squads in tournament and Toronto used there full squad and still came third is a little disheartening. ( maybe the fact that Toronto doesn’t have any players, may play to that fact) The other fact that there is a Celebrity game that includes Ethan Zohn as your A-class celebrity. ( if you don’t know who this , think back to Survivor 2 or so). And the final thing that pissed me off about this tournament was the fact that getting information about any of the games was so hard to get that i found myself at 1 am searching big soccer for information. ( and trust me i don’t feel good about it )
AND FINALLY THE QUESTION…. A couple of months ago the previous blogger of this blog SAM, posted a question to the readers ” If Mo was fired tomorrow, who would you bring in as manager, and why?” and lets just say that it was quite heated in the responses or just comical ” jurgen Klinsman! “.What happened eventually was that l Coach Mo was fired and GM Mo was hired along with Coach Carver.
So the question for the month of March is ” What are the kinda of players should Coach Carver and GM mo should be looking at to improve the roster“. ( should they continue to look in Europe for aging players or should they beat the trend and go to Asia and Africa and make your name there before the rest of MLS decides to do so. )

I was also frustrated by the lack of info about the games. Thescore.ca seemed to have info when others didn’t.
It seems the tournament certainly had some problems: pitch quality, schedule conflicts, etc. As I understand it, however, it was organized as a fund-raiser for local soccer groups. On the one hand, one worries about protecting players’ health on dodgy playing surfaces and the missed opportunities to develop team cohesion with the starting 11. On the other, however, it is just these kinds of tournaments that have to develop the funds and the interest for local soccer clubs to generate the kind of home grown talent that should the lifeblood of the MLS. Given that the two other venues (Florida and South Carolina) both seem to be competative and that they offer the opportunity for team development, perhaps the Texas tournament is good for the game if not particularly useful for the team. I say, “good job, just send us some scores once in a while.”
Also, regarding talent coming from Africa and Asia. With the African Cup of Nations just finished and the talent that was displayed on traditionally powerful teams like Egypt as well as developing teams like Ghana, I was also wondering why we don’t see more signings from Africa.
