Ronnie be Gone …….( The Aftermath)

By: nicholas | February 28th, 2008

tfc2.jpgIn my last post to the offside blog, i spoke about the inevitable departure of Ronnie O’brian to San Jose Mercury sorry my bad Earthquakes. Well there is at least one GM willing to tell the truth about the trade John Doyle has confirmed the trade to the San Jose Mercury News yesterday so Mr O’brian is gone to grassier pastures. So where does that leave us:

  • We are already significantly poor in the debt department
  • I have a bad feeling in my stomach that we are just trading one gimp for another in Huckerby or Pinto. ( Hence the reason to not get Pozinak back in the trade).

  • Coach Mo … sry GM MO has not done anything in the last year to give the hardcore fans confidence that he know what he is doing. ( well to be fair he did bring in players like Brennan, Robinson and he did draft Maurice Edu. ) I am sure we were all there, watching the press conference were he explicitly stated what this team needs. And to be honest he has brought in bunch of players that he has no intention of signing. Kiki Msumpa whom i have had a love/ hate relationship with wants in excess of 500 000 to sign with TFC, Johnnier Montano who is in camp from Columbia has recently signed a contract with two rival teams in Peru ( lets just say that he is not the sharpest tool in the shed) and the age of joao Pinto should be enough to scare any GM away. The only potential signing that makes sense is potential signing of Huckerby but that nagging hip injury should be a cause for concern.
  • And off to more positive news Maurice Edu and Marvell Wynne has been called in USA U-23 camp for the upcoming qualifying tournament in March.

OK… I will be honest i will miss that little IRISHMAN ….

I just got this from the guy at AOL Fanhouse. I’m linking to it in today’s Daily Dose, but thought you might enjoy a preview. :-) (It is at least tangentially related to your post, too, so I’m not completely off topic.) http://uncutvideo.aol.com/videos/ac5b68174dcfbb937841a057eb5ad372?index=0

Pozniak isn’t doing too well down here. Not sure why. He got put in and almost immediately pulled out of that DC United game in SLO and his playing time during the other pre-season games has been short. I think he even got injured during the Kezar match against Houston?

Um, we could really use Dichio but I’d feel wierd if he left TFC.

Is it strange that I kind of hate San Jose already and we haven’t even played them yet?

(No offense, Melissa, I just get emotionally attached to my players!)

Not given confidence he knows what he’s doing? WTF? Are you being serious. Ok think of it like this - you are moaning because he got rid of O’Brien, and older guy with an injury problem - for what could end up being the #2 pick next year. As a Leafs fan (and maybe you are too?) look at the state of that team - we traded all our draft picks for old, broken down has beens and look where we are. Mo is doing the opposite - I think in 3-5 years you won’t be bitching so much about him “knowing what he’s doing”.

Ives thinks getting the draft pick is trying to get another shot at the O’brien White lottery. Canadian forward playing in Connecticutt short listed for the Herman who MLS tried to lure out early but he decided to stay for his senior year. He’s definitely going first round according to forecasters who get way ahead of themselves and might be really early (so early you have to fight off Seattle).

you know what spark you are probably right … i am probably jumping to conclusion about the Ronnie situation.. TO be fair i really pissed at the lack of movement from the team in the off season ( i know i know.. we still have another month to go but instead of all these nameless players trying out for the team … i like to see “said player” signs for toronto Fc… “said player” is here for the begining of pre-season. ’said player” is here to fill one of the countless holes in the toronto fc roster.

From what i am hearing O’brian really has his heart set for Europe… just like Lapira who is really a first round pic is trying to do. And he would rather play for one more year and hope to get that european contract.( i would not be shocked that he leaves school in the middle of the year to sign for a team this year)

Nicholas you have an excellent point and so too does spark It would be nice to hear things like “Toronto FC signs Thierry Henry as the clubs DP”. (Close your eyes and try to imagine, it’ll make you very happy for one brief second) But unfortunately you have to look at this whole offseason from the christian viewpoint of “Mo has a plan for all the TFC players and its best not to question his plan. However we can hang our hats on the imminent signings of the half dozen trialists we have as they’re players that can definitely contribute. Also we have so many players for whom it was theirt first season in MLS last year and they needed some time to adjust. Also the chemistry will be better, the fitness will be better and no offense to Mo, the coaching will be better. Couple these with a young team still developing and gaining experience and I feel we have a playoff team.
