TFC News and Mus(ings)

Next game: Back to MLS action tomorrow – 2009 champions Real Salt Lake are visiting BMO Field tomorrow evening. Toronto will be desperate to get back to winning ways at home and stay in the playoff race! RSL are in 2nd place in the west (3rd overall), while TFC are now in 9th place, 2 points behind Colorado for the last playoff spot and with 10 games remaining. There’s also only 4 home games left, so every one of them counts! Rogers Sportsnet will be broadcasting the game at 7:00 pm. No live blog from me tomorrow, but you can check out the one on the official TFC site if you want to chat with the masses.

More hurdles in the road: The Canadian Men’s National Team have announced the roster for 2 upcoming friendlies in September, and than means we lose Dwayne DeRosario, Julian de Guzman, and Nana Attakora for possibly 2 MLS games. That’s three of our best players, but that is the nature of the game and we have to accept it. Afterall, Toronto FC have repeatedly gone after Canadian players from the national team (seeing as they are the best this country has to offer), so we really can’t be upset when the guys need to go play for our country. In the short term it hurts a bit for Toronto, but at the same time we all want to see Canada get better in international play and they need these guys to do it. Go Canada!

Homegrown Talent: Toronto FC’s Academy have produced their first player to officially sign with TFC! 17 year old defender Doneil Henry joins the squad. It will be great to see how he does on the big stage and whether the TFC Academy can continue to harvest young talent from the Greater Toronto Area. Who knows, maybe Henry and other TFC Academy players will eventually make it onto the Canadian National Team as well!

Good luck to TFC tomorrow and have a great weekend.

Elsewhere I’ve read that Hart likely won’t play the TFC players for the full 90 minutes in those games. Curse MLS and their non-FIFA int’l break policy.
