TFC SIGNINGS…….. YES REALLY!!!!!!
By: nicholas | April 2nd, 2008After countless times trying to type this post i have giving up trying to type witty remarks only for my internet to crash and lose all that gold, so i am going to give you the bare minimum as a sign of rebellion.
On Monday morning i received a tip from one of sources stating that Laurent Robert and Rohan Rickets were on there way to Toronto to sign contracts. At first i was skeptical, thinking this was only another tryout and thought they will be gone just as fast. But to fault of my own i didn’t follow up with the club to see if there was any validity to signing. So only 2 days later both players are expected to sign by Thursday. ( Who would have thought).
These signing are reminiscent of last year when we were introduced to two wingback last year: Marvell Wynne and Keith Goldwithe. But the fans soon found out that there was a reason why Houston and NY gave away there players for relative peanuts last year. Keith Goldwithe although armed with a lethal left foot was a defensive liability and kind of a head case that is stating that mildly. Marvell Wynne although blessed with all that speed can sometimes lose control of his own body and ball and then place TFC at a disadvantage.
The new Signings Laurent Robert and Rohan Ricketts are decent players in there own right both players should still have the ability to take on players as well as taking shots from far out. Especially Laurent Robert, if any of you were premiership or fans of France Footy back in the day, you were introduced to a winger who was able to open up defenses with the slightest gesture and strike fear in goalkeepers with his laser free kicks. But i am giving this warning if he comes to play and actually gives a crap, then we will have a good player on our hands if he brings the kind of form that he been playing with since 2006 then we will be in for a long 2 years.
Here are some highlights from both players
Laurent Roberts
Age: 32
Position: Winger
Clubs he played for: Paris Saint-Germain, Newcastle United, SL Benfica, Portsmouth,
Currently with: Derby County
Rohan Ricketts
Age:25
Position: Midfielder
Clubs he played for: Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Coventry City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Queens Park Rangers
Currently with: Barnsley

Ricketts hasn’t even hit his prime yet. He could do great things for TFC.

I hope Laurent Robert is a Centro Campista that can be our attacking midfielder.I dont know much about his ability to organize though. Is he a good Link up player? Can we play through him? I am excited. As for Ricketts i dont know much about him….With Robert and Maurice Edu in the Midfield all of a sudden we seem forboding.
Forza TFC!

Nicholas, as a NY fan, I’m wondering what Goldthwaite has done or said to warrant his reputation as a headcase?

Where abouts did you read that Ricketts was on his way? Robert is on the TFC website but nothing about Ricketts. Did the deal fall through?

Ok here is the deal with RIcketts , i may have been a little hasty with rickets because after futher research … Ricketts is here on a 4-week trial because he fell out with his coach at Barnsley … but the word is that they are going to sign him, just not as fast as they did RObert… but i would put money on him signing before April 15 deadline
