Toronto 1-1 NY Red bulls (Running commentary)

By: nicholas | March 19th, 2008

1st half

  • It is half time here in Charleston Carolina and the Mighty reds have struck first, with a wonderfully passed ball by new TFC midfielder Kevin Harsme to Jeff Cunningham. GOAL
  • Julius James had be taken off after receiving an Elbow to the face in the first half. ( suspected concussion)
  • The weather conditions is playing a significant impact on the game, there are very high winds going from left to right.

    2nd half begins

  • 65th min – Harsme and Robinson need to be more active … they seemed to have disappeared.
  • 68th min- missed header by Reyna ..Woefully wide, he has been ineffective most of the game. ( if I remember he had one good pass earlier in the first to Angel)
  • 70th min – Great build up play by the red bulls Angel to Reyna to Wolyniac all one touch ( I guess Reyna heard me typing bad things about him ) GOAL
  • 76th min- Kevin Harsme yellow card for bad tackle.
  • 78th min- Angel with shot, only saved by the post. (Edwards was beaten)
  • 80th min- a change is need by Toronto, the entire midfield has been ineffective for most of the second half. Red Bulls have started to impose their will on the game.
  • 80th min- substitution of Dichio for Samuel.
  • 85th min – TFC new signing Jarrod Smith comes in for Cunningham
  • 85th min- Toronto playing 10 men behind the ball, not really showing any imagination
  • 90th min – Game over.

Quick analysis of the game.

Toronto FC had the better of the first half with good passing and interchanging between the midfield and Defenders. Great runs by the forwards Cunningham and Samuel.

In the second half TFC seemed to have forgotten how to pass the ball with any intent or even combine passes to their own players. NY Red bulls seemed to have figured out how average Robinson was in the game and completely neutralized him in the midfield. Brittan was very average, and did not show any reason for Toronto to keep him, but I would not be surprised if they do. Noticeable absences from the game were the Colombians Pacheco and Pino. I was kinda looking forward to having a second look at the two players.

The starting line-up for the TFC

Edwards, Velez ,Marshall ,James (Phelan) ,Brenan, Brittan, Robinson , Harsme , Dunivant, Cunningham ( Jarrod smith), Samuel (Dichio)

Red-bulls

Conway ( Thornton), Goldwaite, Parke, Mendes, Stammler, Van den Bergh, Luke Sassano, (Borman) Ubiparipović ( Brunner), Reyna, ,Angel, Echeverry ( Wolyniac)

to be honest samuel didn;t play all that bad… this game was lost in the midfield. Once the second half started Stammer literally marked Robinson out of the game.
