Where are the Canuks????????
By: nicholas | December 1st, 2007CORRECTION NOTICE: JON BUSCH TO TORONTO FC…
i guess i got caught up in the rumour mill, only to realise that TFC has done nothing to help a stuggling journalist keep writing. Therefore Jon Busch is not coming to toronto ( THANK GOD) but the rest of the article is worth noting. ( if you got any toronto fc rumours you wanna share then, email me at nicholasrehenry@gmail.com or just leave a comment k
AS my offside buddy Dave from the redbull offside blog mentioned earlier today, TFC has gone after that much heralded GK that Mo johnston was looking for. Jon Busch is back and he is ready to break some skulls. I guess the loss ( pink slipped) of Srdjan Djekanovic was significant enough that we went after that internationally acclaimed goalkeaper that we really need. SO i am asuming that Coach Mo can see something that the rest of the league cant see.
So lets take a look at this. Jon Busch . link. He was a decent GK. a couple of years ago before he had a major knee injury in 2003 and has not played consistently since coming back last year. MHHHhhhhhhhhh…. he has 1 cap for the united states, lost his job in columbus before coming to Toronto for a tryout last year, but was then subsequently cut by the team.
Personally i would have just kept Srdjan Djekanovic, although he was not impressive, he doesn’t take away from one of the International spots, that we have on the roster. But that does bring about some questions. As some of you may have noticed Super Mo waived ( pink slipped) seven players (Adam Braz, Maycoll Canizalez, Srdjan Djekanovic, David Guzman, Stephen Lumley, Cristian Nunez, Marco Reda) and if you have not noticed yet THEY ARE ALL CANADIAN.
I am sure that one of TFC primary goals at the begining of the year was to win the MLS CUP and to develop young canadian talent. ( the emphasis on Canadian talent ). But if Super Mo is willing to drop the experiment after one year, its doesn;t bode well for the future. I am still looking for some indication of TFC scounting canada for some quality players. ( and i dont mean those money making machines in open tryouts, i mean actually going to manitoba and Quebec and scouting some players).
The Inability of the CSA to find, keep, or develop any canadian talent has limited the talent pool a fair bit but the idiots at the CSA, shouldn’t hamper TFC resolve to finding the talent. So of a team of 25 players at the end of the season( with 16 canucks ), We now have 17 players with 7 canucks, including the newly added Jon Busch. I am sure we all read about the Canuck alliance to develop young canadian talent, i really hope that was not just there to appease the informed and trick the diehards because if they dont actually go through with there promise, they will be doing more harm than good to landscape of Canadian talent.
I am pretty sure there is no coincidence between the last professinal canadian team in toronto and Canada actually making the worldcup in 86.
Lets just hope that some of the players that Coach Mo decides to bring in are actually canadian and not just international player taking opportunities away from the hometown boys.

Jon Busch is not joining TFC. This rumour has been created by the fact that the last waiver draft was in early 2007, which is how we acquired Busch in the first place. Then we cut him. Now people search news sites typing in “Waiver Draft 2007 toronto” and finding that we took him. we did not. lots of confusion created online through this, but if you check reputable news sources (mlsnet.com) - nobody has been taken.
