Andy Welsh: Say Goodbye to the Little Engine that Couldn’t, Most of the Time
By: Sam | August 30th, 2007
Really, I don’t know if this is true, the only thing I’ve heard about this was at Bigsoccer, where I read that apparently, Welsh told everyone at training he was leaving for Blackpool FC in the Championship.
Is this a good thing?
Yeah, it is. Welsh, touted as one of the best players on the squad when the season started, never made a lasting impression on the wing. He did grace us with uncaracteristic moments of brilliance now and again, but most of the time either sat on the bench or wasted runs. In his defence, he was pretty good at getting corners.
The other thing is his salary. His was among the highest on the team, and if some people can say he was good, he wasn’t living up to his wages by any stretch of imagination.
I’ll have more to say about this when a credible source comes along and announces it, but for now, give me your thoughts about Welsh and the transfer.

So, I guess the rumours about his alleged beef with Mo were true then?

I just posted this same comment on the previous discussion, so yes I am double posting!
The Globe & Mail had an article with few details. It didn’t state if he was sold or if he left on his own terms or what. It did state that it would free up cap space. He was set to make $228000. Pretty high Salary for an average MLS’er I would think. Here is the article:

Its the only confirmed media report I have read.

It was in Today’s Toronto Sun too. Apparently Blackpool FC expressed interest in Welsh. It doesn’t appear they are getting cash for him. The are waving Welsh and he has to clear the 48 hour waiver rule and then will join Blackpool. All it says is that TFC will have more room under the cap by dumping Welsh’s big salary.

This story actually was orginally from http://www.Kickabola.com you heard it on bigsoccer because the member that posted from big soccer was a memeber at kickabola and got the story there first..
As for Welsh leaving… FINALLY..he was taking up too much cap room and wasn’t worth it. Hopefully this means that a DP will be coming in!

Go to the Blackpool website. They have a feature on Welsh. There is no question he is gone.
